Art Department Update!

Lots of work underway in the Art department at the moment, it feels like a really busy time!

Year 8 students are completing a poster based on themselves using the zodiac and astrology symbols from all different cultures.

In Dan's picture you can see he is an Ox, as well as a snake and a mouse. All of these symbols represent different traits in personalities that we are supposed to possess.

The final posters are being painted with watercolours. I am trying to get the students to consider using translucent and opaques effects, colour mix, create texture and also paint with accuracy - there's a lot to consider!

Year 9 students have all finished making a Green Man Mask in clay and the last masks are being glazed, here is a kiln loaded ready to go.

Waiting for the chance to be glazed are Year 8 pigs, these have all been fired once, they need to have oxide added by the students.

And finally the finished lino prints from 8.3. Our art assistant Jane is getting these ready for display around the school.

I'll get more images on of what's going on with everybody over this week but it's fair to say everybody is working hard!

Burma Bake Off!

Easter is on it's way and here in England it's a tradition to give Chocolate Easter Eggs to family and friends.

We thought it might be nice to raise some money to send chocolate to our friends in Sunrise School so we are having a Bake Off! - fund raising through cake!

8.3 are going to make cakes and sell them, Jane, our Art assitant is going to make the best ever Easter Cake  and we are going to raffle it off - and - Jane is taking comissions for 10 Chocolate Easter cakes aswell,  3 have gone already! - no surprise, everyone here loves Jane's cakes.

Multi Cultural Zodiac Project

This term Year 8 has taken part in a new project.  We are designing and producing

a poster which tells information about us.

The information comes from looking at our Zodiac and star signs from different cultures, how different cultures have different beleifs about when we are born. We are all different animals and other images are used.

We used this form to collect the information we needed and to enable us to find the images we needed.

Our star signs even give us ideas about the types of colours to use.

We like the project because we like finding out about ourselves and we like designing. Painting it carefully will be the hard part!

Inter Sports Year 8

Hi ! We are Becky and Katie and Neve and we are blogging about our Inter form match!

In Inter form, forms come together and play netball or football to see who is the sportiest form. It is all for FUN!

We don't take it seriously it is just a bit of a laugh!

                                          All  forms did extremely well! Everyone is a WINNER!

All these people in blue are in form 8G and came second.

               This is our inform and we do it once every term and sometimes the sports change to either dance, basket ball or maybe tennis or badminton.This is like a mini sports day .

Dvd's Ready to go

Remeber we brought Sunrise School a DVD player? We have collected over 50 film DVDs and 50 music DVDs to send over to Sunrise School. Thanks to everyone who had a clear out, any more anywhere?

Estelle sent us a brooch made from a range of recycled and found materials, it's an example of a project she runs with students.

We like the idea so much we are going to use it as the basis for a project with Year 8 students, designing in Art and making in textiles, the designs can be of anything.

And finally it's all happening in the Art department, here Year 7 students are finishing off covering their wire fish frames in tissue. They are trying to add as much pattern as possible and are also trying to show regular and irregular pattern.

The moat of the old  Chiang Mai city has 4 gates. In our last post, you saw photos of elephant lanterns at the Chang Puak gate (North). These photos are from the Suan Dork gate (western) and represent Thai mythical and astrological creatures. The structures are made of cane or bamboo covered with fabric.
